When doing these reviews, we like highlighting things that firms do differently. In Hughes & Luce's case, it would have to be the "Client Comments." While many firms have debated whether to list their clients or not, Hughes & Luce went well beyond that issue to do client testimonials. Though the page takes a day and a half to load, it's worth it: if you're visiting the site to learn about the firm, this is probably the best way to do it. Testimonials from some recognizable companies help you find out why that company hired Hughes & Luce and what work Hughes & Luce did for the company. Just like objective reviews of software are more helpful than marketing fluff on the back of the software box, these testimonials do a great job of telling you why Hughes & Luce is a good law firm. It works. We're surprised more firms don't do this. Another great idea is their Virtual Clerkship - which allows future summer associates to start creating written work product well in advance of the summer through a firm-developed extranet. The conventional elements of a site aren't here - no attorney bios or publications - but given the strong focus of the site, that seems less important. However, we'd recommend a link to Martindale-Hubbell as a way to at least provide contact info for the attorneys. The lack of other substance is the only thing keeping the firm from scoring higher.
