The site design at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's site is terribly inconsistent. Some pages sport a marble background, others have a green, malachite-type border, and others have nothing at all, leaving them with the default gray background. This lends an unfinished feel to the site, as if it hasn't yet had its final bug check. The animated GIF on the home page is unprofessional. Although we generally don't like animated GIFs, they have, on occasion, added something to a site. This is not one of those times. The animation is choppy, and it just ends up distracting the viewer from the rest of the page. Pages like the "Recruiting News" are a great idea, as they display a strong commitment to generating interest among applicants. Unfortunately, the execution is poor. The right-justified text and rotating "New" button is text-heavy and unlikely to inspire much enthusiasm among visitors. Having "What's New" be a part of the home page is a great idea, and as of this review, it happened to mention a commercial legal site founded by an Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe partner, www.legal-businessforms.com, which was certainly not designed by the same group. Perhaps Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe ought to call Legal Business Forms' designer.
